AC Podcast: Stink has a Second Life
AC Podcast, Episode 50
Date: February 14, 2007
Full episode: Vocal mixing and tape stop effect with pitch shifting
Summary: Chris Hambly hosts the AC Sound Engineering Podcast from the UK, and I highly recommend this program for all home recording enthusiasts who prefer their tutorials delivered in a decisively British brogue.
Still, even when you can’t understand what anyone is saying, you can tell they’re having a really good time!
Throughout the show, Chris and his chatty guests provide examples of various techniques to improve the music they record in living rooms, bedrooms, basements and occasionally, an actual studio.
There’s nothing like the surreal thing
The lesson plan also happens to include some of the finest examples of podsafe music available. Chris included Her Shit Don’t Stink on this week’s playlist, to show the kids how it’s really done.
Markedly amplifying the peaks with digital compression (I know a thing or two about audio editing myself), Chris used my song to accentuate a good-natured attack on a rival Second Life clan.
At least, that was my impression. I don’t know much about Second Life, except that it creates a virtual reality for people whose lives are not already sufficiently virtual.
Isn’t it ironic?
Chris laughs along with Her Shit Don’t Stink, deriving the full measure of appreciation from my sardonic look at love gone bad. What I like about these British folks is they really understand irony. Why don’t Americans get irony the way the Brits do?
In fact, why am I not in England right now, being appreciated? Why am I stuck here in America, where people don’t get me? Why, why, why?
Irony served here (1:03).
