The Mad Music Show: Cap’n Wayne disses the Doctor
The Mad Music Show, Episode 75
Date: April 22, 2007
Full episode: Politically In-Correct
Summary: Wayne Ross had a nice little Dr. Demento fan site going — that is, until Dr. D’s tough love forced Wayne to forge a new comedy music path.
Citing proprietary reasons, Dr. Demento and his terrestrial radio and Internet broadcast partners asked Wayne to remove a comprehensive Demento show archive from thedrdementoshow.com, the site Wayne founded in January 2005.
A pirate is born
But from the ashes rose the Mad Music Archive, featuring the Mad Music Show with Cap’n Wayne. The two-hour weekly program provides an additional shot of Dementia for old and new fans of the original. Sign up for a free membership to download the podcast.
Last week, Wayne closed the second segment of his Politically In-Correct program with my own caustic ballad, Don’t Really Matter.
I’m in love with that girl right there
Pretty Mexican girl with the dark brown hair
Big brown eyes and hands so small
Seen one Mexican girl and you’ve seen ‘em all.
“Why is it that that kind of insensitive disregard for other people is starting to seem absurdly refreshing?” wrote subscriber thesuspence on the show forum. “I suppose it’s better to hear someone speak honestly from a dark heart, than to have to listen to one more well-polished lie.”
From podcast to college radio
The Mad Music Show is the rare podcast also heard on terrestrial radio. It’s replayed each week on KFKX 90.1 in Hastings, Nebraska and 97.9 FM in Melbourne, Australia.
Wayne’s site is a virtual IMDB for Dr. Demento fans, featuring playlists, song titles and artists who have appeared on the show since 1972. You’ll even find an artist’s page for Ken Turetzky. Request my songs while you’re there.
The Mad Music Archive also plays host to another Demented podcast, Manic Mondays, hosted by Tom Rockwell of the comedy rap band Sudden Death.
As of April 1, Wayne claimed 26,586 members for the Mad Music Archive, which recently added an MP3 Store. For the full story, read Wayne’s own engaging site history.
