Demento’s disciples
A tentative, alternative Dementia movement is afoot, as comedy music podcasters begin to explore a break with the genre’s spiritual father, whose own playlist grows ever narrower.
In fact, Wayne Ross founded the Mad Music Archive as a tribute to Dr. Demento, but shifted focus when his site drew unwelcome attention from the distributors of the Dr. Demento Show.
“Anything destined to be loved is also destined to be hated,” Wayne writes on his site. Continue reading

Big Phil moves in
Looks like Big Phil’s settling in. He just closed on a home in Oklahoma City. To show their gratitude, Big Phil bought his real estate agent a can of Mace, and she bought him a book about Jesus.
And to celebrate, Phil played some My Fat Ass Itches on Episode 101 of the Love Parade.
Praise the Lord!
But something isn’t quite right. “I think my fat ass itches, also,” Phil says, tentatively.
Sure it does, Phil. Your fat ass is trying to tell you that you just made a huge mistake! Continue reading

Jerry swings with Fly Me
![]()
I love Jerry Lewis, a comedy genius with a social conscience who recently reminded us that illiterate fags are people, too. Will we see Bart’s son Jesse on the cover of Parade Magazine next Labor Day?
What I wanna say is, Jerry’s still in there swingin’, Vegas style, speaking to the farshluggineh noodnick in all of us. He’s not afraid to let go of inhibitions, make a funny face, dance a little step, light a cigarette with a four-foot tower of flame or shove a water glass in his face. Continue reading

The Freak hits 100
Big Phil’s justifiably shocked at the realization that he’s managed to produce 100 episodes of his beloved podcast, Big Phil’s Love Parade. And so am I.
I’m still waiting on the promised Cheesy Porn Music Tour of comedy clubs and porno palaces Big Phil announced way back in Episode 95. Forgotten, I imagine, like Oklahoma City’s abandoned dogs. Yeah, Phil had big plans for them, too.
You’re welcome, Phil
Thankfully, though, talk is cheap, so Big Phil compensates with effusive thanks to the friends and sycophants who helped build his Freak Network empire. Continue reading

Last gasp for Die?
Riding a surge of hidden support, I’ll Get Old And Die resurfaced at No. 7 on the latest Mad Music Dementia Top 20.
Even after I’d given it up for lost, this marks the sixth appearance in 10 weeks for my ain’t in a hurry to go nowhere protest song (featuring Brandon Higgins on drums) on David Tanny’s comedy music podcast.
Prolific U.K. bicycle repairman and songwriter/recording artist Chris Wilkinson (as The Volume Brothers) also made the chart at No. 12 with Take The Shame. Continue reading
