Mad Music Dementia Top 20 PodcastSo Dr. Demento finally played one of my songs. So I got a little uppity and told those sawed-off podcasters at the Mad Music Archive that I didn’t need them any more.

Can you blame me? I mean, what would you do if you suddenly got a taste of the big time? Reach back in the gutter and pull out an old cigar butt?

Well, the laugh’s on me, I guess. A couple of weeks have gone by and Dr. Demento hasn’t played any more of my songs. And, if you can believe it, the denizens of the Mad Music Archive are Mad At Me!

Ken, you insolent slut!

“I guess I should not play your music after reading your blog. Don’t worry it wont (sic) happen again,” one wounded podcaster told me.

Prolific poster (and valued MMA friend) Sick Puppy wrote:

Perhaps I didn’t read this right…. Are you suggesting that the podcasts supported here are simply “pretenders and upstarts” and their hosts “lesser demented imitators”?

I’m not denying that you need Demento’s support, but you need the support of the podcasters just as much. Don’t forget that Doctor Demento is still losing radio stations, but [MMA founder] Captain Wayne (and others like him) continues to gain new listeners.

And just when a dialogue threatened to break out, the conversation devolved into its familiar pattern of attacks on Dr. Demento, attacks on Mad Music Dementia Top 20 host David Tanny, and avant-garde musician Art Paul Schlosser talking about himself.

Will you still love me tomorrow?

Speaking of David Tanny, I’ll Get Old And Die enjoyed a brief resurgence following its Demento exposure, vaulting to No. 5 in the MMDT20 poll.

My song had previously been absent from the Top 20 for seven weeks. Meanwhile, Fly Me To The Moon marked eight straight weeks on DT’s show, placing 13th in the vote for two weeks running.

My songs have been doing really, really well on DT’s show! Now why do I have a feeling my popularity with MMA voters is about to hit a brick wall?

Help, DT, help!

DT tried to bail me out with the MMA mob, but I fear his pleas fell on deaf ears. I mean, after all, these people have been listening to a lot of FuMP!

“Ken has enough of a twisted mind to generate support for the topic that he’s criticizing,” David wrote in a thread titled Ken Turetzky: More Clever Than You Think:

….namely, copycat podcasters and web radio hosts, in such a backhanded fashion that it turns out that it’s generating interest from the silent readers who are wondering [who] the heck are those copycat podcasters and web radio hosts[?]

If saying nice things don’t generate support, say something mean and generate some controversy. That gets people riled up and they start acting up.

Dammit, Dave, stop revealing my methods! You don’t wanna piss me off!

Ask for me by name

For those few who are still with me, please ask Dr. Demento to play my songs!

The Mad Music Dementia website makes me feel claustrophobic, Ken.

In spite of that, I looked around to try and figure out where I could cast my vote in support of the Turetzky.

All I found was . You’re not on that list.

  2. Shawno says:

I guess I’ve fallen victim to an attack of Turetzky Syndrome.

I read this entry in my RSS reader, which gave it a more recent date than 11/30/07. That would probably explain things.

  3. Ken Turetzky says:

Shawno, I think the important thing here is that, with your latest posts, you’ve established a solid hold on second place in my Comments Leaderboard.

Besides, working Shawnos like us have no time for recreational activities like “voting.”

We’re far too busy putting food on our families, subscribing to my and reading my music blog!

    Ken
