Jerry rides the wave to No. 1
Steve Wheatley and I are getting along really well now. He’s introducing me on Dalecast like a carnival barker unveiling an anatomical oddity.
“Coming up next, the one, the only, the one and only Mr. Ken Turetzky,” he says. “And it’s not Jerry Lewis, by the way. This is called Fly Me To The Moon!”
Steve’s played a big role in the recent resurgence of my song, which has enjoyed a strong run on the Podsafe Music Network Top Ten charts, peaking at No. 1. Continue reading

Comedy isn’t always funny
Rev. Zack’s been riding a mellow groove with the Comedy Music Cellar podcast, sleepily exhorting listeners to “open up your heart(s) and let the lunacy in.”
But Zack’s also something of a sleeper among Demented music podcast hosts, proving to be flexible and adaptive in the face of competition for funny music listeners.
For a while there, playlists remained static even as the number of funny music hours grew. (With the addition of Bofore Radio, the Mad Music Archive now hosts six programs). Continue reading

Little blog of horrors
Don’t know why, but I seem to have touched a nerve with Steve Wheatley when I compared his low-fi Dalecast with the extremely frightful-sounding Top 20 AM radio format of many, many decades ago.
In truth, I meant for my comments to elicit warm feelings of nostalgia, as when one fondly recalls a cat that once went missing and never turned up again.
But the compliment appears to have flown right past Steve, who retaliated by playing I’ll Get Old And Die on Episode 162 of Dalecast and adding, “Ken Turetzky…Don’t forget to visit his Web site and leave a comment on his blog of horrors.” Continue reading

Forever Whores of the Roundup
Someone please stop this vicious cycle of mutual reference, this charade of digital collegiality. God knows I’ve lost control of the thing.
It’s almost as if the Podcast Roundup has become a force unto itself; a golem that subsists on references to my music, my blog, my dissipated personality.
Hyper Nonsense co-host Shawno exhaled meaningfully before he spoke, aware that he would only be feeding the monster. And yet, inevitably, he continued: Continue reading

Top of the pops, Ma!
Just because AM Top 40 radio is dead doesn’t mean the format has to go away.
You don’t have to miss the repetitive formatting, the crappy fidelity, the deejays talking over the music, the cheesy jingles.
Just for you, Steve Wheatley has preserved the radio relic with his fast-paced daily Dalecast, “from Frosterley in the heart of Weardale, County Durham, U.K.” Continue reading
