Little blog of horrors

Dalecast podcastDon’t know why, but I seem to have touched a nerve with Steve Wheatley when I compared his low-fi Dalecast with the extremely frightful-sounding Top 20 AM radio format of many, many decades ago.

In truth, I meant for my comments to elicit warm feelings of nostalgia, as when one fondly recalls a cat that once went missing and never turned up again.

But the compliment appears to have flown right past Steve, who retaliated by playing I’ll Get Old And Die on Episode 162 of Dalecast and adding, “Ken Turetzky…Don’t forget to visit his Web site and leave a comment on his blog of horrors.”

Indeed!

And what’s all this then?

At any rate, further examination of the playlist revealed that for the second appearance in a row, I’ve been paired with a segment of the inscrutable British family sitcom The Bradshaws.

I get it now. I’m part of a new Dalecast comedy bloc!

Take a look at this bit of Bradshaws business:

The Bradshaws radio comedyAudrey: “What is it ya stuck with?”

Little Billy: Me geography!

Audrey: Let’s have a look at ya questions.

Little Billy: The first one is, What is the capital of France?

Audrey: F. Capital F.

Alf: Good God!

See? I don’t get it, either.

Greetings from Weardale, and all the sheeps at sea

Anyway, Steve was still seething over that “low-fi radio” remark, and wrote this editorial in response. The Blog Of Horrors does not necessarily endorse his comments and presents them here only as a public service:

Hi, Ken.

Just been reading your blog and…

Thanks for the comments and some “points” have been noted, ahem! I did enjoy Fly Me To The Moon and have always loved the zany humour in the Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin movies of old. Regarding the “low-fi quality” of the podshows….

Well, server space is at a premium and there are always about 40 shows on the server at any one time and each show is about 20Mb in size.

There is another reason for this as well, and that is if you like one or more of the tunes I play then the listener can visit the artist’s website or myspace and buy the good-quality original! Although some of the tracks are still crap quality lol.

The first 20-odd shows of Dalecast were weekly shows. Then I started doing them daily. It keeps me occupied seeing as I can’t work anymore.

Frosterley is a quaint village in Weardale; it would probably fit into one your parking lots in Texas, chortle.

My style of DJing started way back in 1971 and I was influenced by Sir Jimmy Saville, Emperor Rosko, Kenny Everett (The “Bye Bye” jingle at the end of each is by him and also “Puff” that I use at the beginning of some shows), Tony Blackburn, Paul Gambachini, Simon Bates and Alan “Fluff” Freeman. I also used to listen to Radio London, Caroline and Radio Luxembourg every day.

Cheers from Frosty Frosterley.

Ste

Entirely too much news. I’ve never heard of “Sir Jimmy Saville,” “Fluffy Freeman” or any such thing, and I don’t believe a word of it!

What’s the capital of France?  (0:12).

I’ll Get Old And Die  (1:04).
