Big Phil's Love Parade PodcastAlthough I’m not normally one to promote my good deeds, I do humbly admit that people who know me, and even perfect strangers, often express surprise at my most generous nature.

For example, I’m never too busy to offer unprompted advice regarding their manner of dress, their grammar, their efforts in the kitchen, their various artistic endeavors, or even their choice of religion!

Thanks, Mom!

I gladly credit my parents with instilling these elements of good character in my personality, however much they refuse to accept the blame, as they call it.

In fact, they’ve told me more than once that I’m on my own now, and should stop calling them. I’m forever thankful to my parents for setting me on the right course to live in the world, or again, as they call it, making me somebody else’s problem.

It was in this spirit of goodwill that I edited an episode of Big Phil’s Love Parade to remove the extended pauses, gasps of breath, digital squeals, scraping of chairs, belches, barking dogs, fire engines, ringing telephones and hysterical weeping that mar Phil Thompson’s otherwise fine podcast.

I offered this edit, which required hours of unpaid labor, not that I’m complaining, to Phil so that he might listen, learn, and produce an even better weekly program.

Ungrateful planet

Phil responded by hacking Her Shit Don’t Stink to shreds, and cynically offering the tattered remains to his audience as an “improved” version of my hit song.

Further, I’m almost certain that Phil is taking extra-long pauses on this week’s show just to taunt me. He’s a bitter, bitter man, and I sadly underestimated his willingness to accept good advice.

But I still consider my work on Phil’s show to be time well-spent. I’ve done my part to help improve the planet, and if the planet doesn’t like it, well, whose problem is that?

Econ 101

Even without my help, Phil occasionally produces a classic line of social commentary that I’m proud to share with my readers.

Take for example this observation regarding American Airlines’ disturbingly casual attitude toward fleet maintenance:

“So I guess if a passenger gets on a plane with a bomb and the plane blows up, it’s a failure of the war on terror,” Phil says. “But if a plane explodes in mid-air because of faulty parts or maintenance, it’s a success of the free-market society.”

You kill me, Phil!

Let’s edit one of Ken’s songs!  (5:54).
