Ed’s OK, but I don’t like his friends

Ed Ovett is a native New Yorker (I don’t know this for certain, but I’m guessing from the accent) and he pronounces my last name confidently and correctly, for which he gains my highest respect.
Recently, Ed set the tone for a comedy episode of Ed’s Mixed Bag with (Jerry Lewis) Fly Me To The Moon, which has proven to be my most enduring selection among podcasters looking for a sure-fire jolt of Vegas schmaltz.
I’ve got my hands over my ears, but it’s not helping
But even more than for getting my name right and playing my song, I’m grateful to Ed for introducing me to a program called the Family Comedy Minute, a canned entertainment and staple of Ed’s regular, not-funny podcast that bills itself as “a positive boost for your day and a reminder of God’s promises!”
The Family Comedy Minute admonishes listeners:
“Welcome to fun for the entire family. The Family Comedy Minute is a positive boost for the day. And your source for humor that is safe for your family. Now let’s take a moment and laugh with” (another annoying, unknown, unfunny, generic, artificially jovial white male).
Laugh or die
To nail down the message, though, we hear from the buttoned-down host, a would-be comedy maven named Tim DeTellis. “This is Tim DeTellis, reminding you that it’s smart to make laughter a part of your every day.”
And in case you weren’t listening, that’s an order, from Tim DeTellis, his army of Baptist comic hacks, Jesus and the Bush Administration.
You know what? I’m getting myself worked up here. I’m not laughing, though. When does the laughing start?
You know when I’ll laugh for real, Tim DeTellis? When a black guy’s running the country and we’ve all got universal health care. In other words, when you’re not.
This episode is all about fun songs! (0:55).
