Fun 30 Countdown Show

It sounds to me as if David Tanny’s trying a bit too hard to convince everyone that he’s having fun.

“We’re just havin’ fun, folks!” Dave pleads during yet another of his ephemeral new podcasts, the Fun 30 Countdown Show. “That’s all it is, is just fun, folks. It’s just fun, it’s all it is.”

Unfortunately, fun as a concept seems beyond Dave’s reach. In fact, he feels abandoned by his two true loves, the Dr. Demento Show and Top 40 radio. He’s searching for meaning in his life.

He’s not Demented — he’s crazy!

Announcement: David Tanny no longer Demented, Dave proclaimed in another of those press releases where he refers to himself in the third person.

Dementia as a word dropped from his radio show titles and who knows what,” Dave wrote. “Time to move on with my life.”

So, the I Still Get Demented podcast departs, replaced with the Fun 30 and Podcast Fun programs, to emphasize “comedy, humor, weird and novelty” as once exemplified by Dave’s broadcast hero, Dr. Demento.

Dementia vs. Comedy

Dave says he’s going Funderground. “Dementia and Comedy don’t seem to get along,” he writes provocatively at dfsxradio.com.

Yet, his commitment to the Dementia ban lasts all of two minutes into his latest show. “Each week, we count down the Top 30 Demented songs of the week, as voted by you!” Dave says, introducing the Fun 30 show. Oops!

Have you considered ballroom dancing, Dave?

The truth is, a confident and successful DT wouldn’t be half so fascinating as the one who riffs aimlessly on the word record, finally concluding, sagely, “Anything that has music on it is a record — whether it is a record or not.”

Still voting

Speaking of records, (Jerry Lewis) Fly Me To The Moon placed second (to Tyrone Kahn’s Let Me Pee) in the first Fun 30 poll.

Dave featured seven of my songs in the Top 30 show, while my pals the Volume Brothers placed 14 songs — among them covers of My Fat Ass Itches and another of my tunes, Why Don’t You Get A Job.

People I Know and Fly Me To The Moon also appeared at Nos. 22 and 20, respectively, in the DFSX Top 100 of 2008.

Wanna help Dave find himself? Go vote for my songs in the new Fun 30 ballot.

Meanwhile, I’m still on speaking terms with Dr. Demento, even if Dave isn’t. Please visit his site and request my songs!

New format: Funderful!

Funderful  (5:07).

We’re just havin’ fun, folks!  (0:05).

Do they still make records?  (0:24).
