Purple asses imperil nation

Big Phil's Love Parade Podcast

Big Phil has been taking some hard shots lately at GOP presidential candidate John McCain, in what I view as a noble but naive campaign to avert yet another Republican “victory” during the November “elections.”

Sure, I could have knocked on doors and campaigned for Obama, but I’m hip to the game, and felt my time would be better served in enlightening my very, very good friend Phil per the modern realities of our political system.

Dead fucking serious

So, I took one of Phil’s impassioned rants — creeping fascism bad, Obama the last hope for democracy, blah, blah, blah — and with a few practiced edits, transformed the host of the Love Parade into a voice made for talk radio, a card-carrying white man who’d be welcome at your neighborhood Palin rally. Dave drives the 405

I Still Get Demented Podcast Edition

David Tanny plays my songs on his podcast and various streaming radio programs and that’s all great, but lots of other shows play my songs.

What I like instead about David’s shows are the vast, seemingly interminable segments (aka D.T. Rants) where he explains the rules for his complicated David’s Top 10 ballot, or even better, when Dave introduces a concert review and then spends 10 minutes blithely describing his highway routes to and from the venue. Vote Wheatley in 2008!

Steve Wheatley really sells the product in his role as Dalecast deejay. And that’s what I like about Steve’s show, other than the fact that he plays my songs and bumpers again and again and again.

To summarize Steve’s introductions from 22 recent episodes:

“That was of course the great…the unmistakeable…from Texas…impersonating Jerry Lewis…the one and only sound there of Ken Turetzky and Today Was A Very Good Day, If They Found Me Dead, The Ballad Of Morris The Cat, Big Black Barn, Why Don’t You Get A Job, I Feel Bad, Fly Me To The Moon, People I Know and My Fat Ass Itches!” Continue reading

Pay no attention to your music player!

Big Phil's Love Parade Podcast

Did you know that some 6,000 people download the Big Phil’s Love Parade podcast each and every month?

These numbers bestow a certain power on a man — the power to build up, or destroy, to change minds, change the course of history, or maybe just change his pants; I don’t know.

And so when Phil slashes with his scathing wit, his blade cuts deep and wide. But that blade also cuts two ways. Continue reading

Stop flapping; it’s not funny

When last we heard from the musical “wing” of the Sowerby & Luff comedy empire, the very Australian Rosie Koonunga-Hill was reciting comedy song credits and enthusiastically repeating the title of her program, Chicken-flayps, chicken-flayps!

Chicken on George Bush's head

OK, I’m picturing a chicken flapping its wings. Is that even funny? Or should I be hungry instead? Perhaps if the show had its own logo — of a chicken flapping its wings — I might be persuaded to laugh.

How about this image of a chicken sitting on some stupid moron’s head? That’s sort of funny. Seems like you missed an opportunity, Chickenflaps! Continue reading
